Who we are
PILIO ice cream is a family business with a long history in the ice cream business.
Our company is constantly evolving and developing, presenting innovative products every year.
Our new state-of-the-art factory, with excellent technological equipment, has been located since 2006 in the A' Ind. Area of Volos.
With significant investments in our facilities, we have created the most suitable factory structures to meet international standards.
Our story begins in 1945, when Stelios Peponopoulos founds the company and starts producing ice cream. When EVOL company leaves, our company becomes the only ice cream producer in the region.
For the first time, the ice cream sticks are packaged in the signature paper bags. The standardization is done with a machine that Stelios Peponopoulos got from EVOL company.
Our business is heading into a new era, that of standard ice cream. At the same time it changes its form and is renamed S. Peponopoulos & Co. The three sons of Stelios Peponopoulos join the company, which is established in Neapolis, Volos. There it is equipped with new, advanced technology and now produces over 45 types of ice cream, all standardized and all with the signature and guarantee of the “PILIO” brand.
We introduce an original and innovative product, “THE PAGOTINIA”, changing the current standards in ice cream industry. Small ice creams (mainly sticks and rockets) in various shapes and flavours are becoming a hit.
After a successful course, we inaugurate a new era and transfer our facilities to a state-of-the-art, privately owned factory of a total area of 2000sq.m. in Volos BiOPA (A’ Bi.PE Volos), which consists of high-tech production equipment. In addition, the legal form of the company is also changed, which is now renamed PEPONOPOULOS S.A.
As demand is multiplying, we are expanding the company even further to an area of 1700 square meters, which consists of 4 state-of-the-art deep-freezing chambers. This ensures a larger storage space and better results in terms of compliance with safety and hygiene rules.
The marriage of syrupy sweets and ice cream is a fact! Once again we create something new and unique, combining flavours of the East with our delicious ice cream. The beginning is made with saragli, followed by other products, which are winning over consumers.
We continue to grow impressively, building another 1000m² of facilities consisting of high quality equipment.
We are updating our corporate identity and introducing a new logo. The new logo depicts Mount Pelion, from which the company’s name originates, together with our trademark ice cream, which we first launched in 1996.
We install photovoltaic systems in our facilities in order to cover our energy needs in more modern and sustainable ways. Thus, we continue to produce the most delicious ice cream with respect for the environment!
